This program begins with
very gentle exercises that are started
within hours of the birth. Using the
stability ball and Pilates exercises, the
postpartum woman is guided through a series
of exercises that close the abdominals,
realign the spine and rehabilitate the
pelvic floor. The aim of the program is to
gently rebuild the bodys strength from the
inside out, healing from the trauma of
birth. Diastasis-recti and separation of the
pubic bone are addressed, and techniques
given on how to heal them.

Course Facilitator
Carolyne Anthony started her professional career
as a dancer in London, England in 1982, where
she was first introduced to Pilates by Alan
Herdman. She obtained her teaching degree in
1982 from The Stella Mann School of Dancing and
is a Member of The Royal Academy of Dancing as
well as an Associate of The Imperial Society of
Teachers of Dance (AISTD). She continued dancing
with small companies in Spain, Europe and Africa
before her husband's job brought them to The
United States.
Carolyne was a professor of dance at the
Hartford Conservatory of Music and Dance and
also the Artistic Director of the Enfield Civic
Ballet Company during her stay in Connecticut.
She also danced with the New England Dance
Theatre. Carolyne subsequently became very
interested in the exercise world and was
certified as a group exercise leader by AFAA and
as an aquatics instructor by AEA. She is also
currently certified to teach Pilates (Core
Grace) and Yamuna Body Rolling.
While pregnant with her first child in 1988, she
could not find a way to exercise that seemed
safe and specific to her needs. She began to
look into special programs for pregnant women
and became certified with Sylvia Klein Olkin's
Positive Pregnancy and Post partum Fitness
programs. She became one of Sylvia's Master
Teachers in 1993, as well as a close, personal
friend. She worked with Sylvia on developing the
programs. After Sylvia's death, she carried on
her legacy by teaching and developing the
programs further.
Today you have the very successful "Pregnancy
Fitness Program" and "Post Partum
Rehabilitation Program". These programs are
holistic and work according to a woman's
specific needs during the childbearing years.
Full use is made of the birthing balls.
As Master Teacher and inspiration for The Center,
Carolyne has led classes through the Ann Arbor
studio, and certified fitness instructors,
physiotherapists, doulas, yogis, and others from
around the world to teach The Center's
specialized programs.
In 1997, Carolyne added Teacher Training
Certification to her repertoire and has
successfully certified teachers in the USA,
Canada, Malaysia, Australia, Japan and China.
Today, she travels internationally conducting
workshops and seminars. Carolyne is an
accomplished speaker and presenter.
